Primed by his siblings' love for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, Jerry "Dross" Foltz fell headlong into his destiny in 1986 when he discovered Metallica's "Master of Puppets" album. Shortly after, Dross bought his first set of drums and he hasn't looked back since. His teenage years were filled with rehearsals, home recording and playing various gigs, all the while honing his drumming chops. In 1998, Dross attended Los Angeles Recording Workshop in North Hollywood, California where he earned his degree as an Audio Engineer. One year later, he began to form a Symphonic Black Metal band called Sothis.
By 2004, Dross played drums on, as well as produced the self titled "Sothis" EP that would ultimately receive critical acclaim, earning the award "Best Independent Release of 2005" by Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine. By 2006, Sothis began a South West Mini Tour in support of the EP, which yielded their "Official Bootleg" DVD. The band released another DVD titled "Live in Mexico" before entering the studio to record their debut full length album, "De Oppresso Liber", which was later released worldwide in early September, 2008. Together, Sothis embarked on the Endless Wintour and then the CIII Tour in support of the album.
Upon his return from the road in the summer of 2009, Dross opened Black Static Recording Studios in order to be able to focus on music 100%. When not in his studio, tending to his current client base, Dross is also a technical writer for the Extreme Metal drumming magazine, Sick Drummer and an instructor for the Sick Drummer Camp, held annually each year. This has seen him work alongside extreme drumming legends like Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Gene Hoglan and Tim Yeung, just to name a few. He also continues to write new material for Sothis's sophomore album, which is tentatively scheduled for release in the first or second quarter of 2012.
